What are fungi and moulds?

The terms ‘fungi' and ‘moulds' are synonyms. Fungi, the proper biological name, is the term used to describe a group of microorganisms that have characteristic features which form the basis of their level of classification, i.e. in between bacteria and plants/animals. Yeasts are the simplest, single-celled fungi, but also the more common bread moulds and mushrooms are constituents of the group of fungi.
